Building Wonderland Part 2

Ok. So I think it's finished. I think. I'll probably end up adding loads more to it. So without further ado, Wonderland!

This is the path that runs from the maze/garden to the Queen of Hearts' castle. Yes that is a heart built from blocks. I tried. Credit for trying. And this is the castle;

I took these before I built the heart. This took me three hours. Seriously. This castle - three hours. But, I'm quite proud of it.

This is the castle garden at the exit of the maze. I know the lighting is pretty funky here but there are funny shaped topiaries, flamingos and flowers.

Different angle. The light is less funky here.

Here's a close up of the flamingos and flowers. Flamingos for the croquet game, flowers for the roses. This was the closest I could get to "painting the roses red."

Here's that maze I keep talking about. I got lost in it a few times so I must have made it pretty good.

I added trees to the twisty winding path. And signposts. Then I added more trees. Looking pretty good. And like I said I would, I made;

The beach from the Walrus and the Carpenter. However, I have neither a walrus nor a carpenter so its just a beach. And last but not least;

Giant mushrooms.

And so we have Wonderland;

The white bit before the path is the ceiling of the curious hall, then the pathway, tea party, river, mushrooms, beach, maze, garden, heart -

And castle.

The end. I think.

Building Wonderland

So I, like many Disnerds, have Disney Infinity and I decided that it would be fun to create a Wonderland Toy Box. Hahaa. Bad idea. It is taking forever. But I thought I'd share what I have so far (and it is the bare minimum. Seriously, three hours I've been doing this and its just the basic layout). At the moment I'm playing as Vanellope so it is Vanellope in Wonderland (that would be a great movie). Firstly, the rabbit hole;

So, its just a big hole in the ground surrounded by some trees. I'm working on it I swear. And yes, that is the top of a ladder. I need to get back out of Wonderland somehow.

This is the view down the rabbit hole. Its quite a fair drop and I have some random things floating around in there; a chair, a mailbox, a lamp post, some luggage. What you would normally find in a rabbit hole. At the bottom of the rabbit hole we find ourselves in;

Dun dun dun, the curious hall. I know there are meant to be a lot of doors in this room but its stupidly hard fitting the walls around the doors. So there is one. The tiny one. And yes, its automatic. Just walk right up to it, through into Wonderland. And I know that it looks like the table is supporting the ceiling. Its not. Thats just the angle.

Like I said, through into Wonderland. This is the beginning of that twisty winding path through the trees. No tress just yet. Heres a better view;

Was still busy changing the path into bricks when I took this. Trees and signposts coming soon. And I know that this path is not after the curious hall but its Wonderland so its allowed the be crazy and out of order. That and I can't build a sea with a bottle for a boat. Will probably build the beach from the Walrus and the Carpenter.

Mad hatter's tea party.

So here's a view of Wonderland so far. Shot taken from the top of the Rabbit Hole. So theres the path, a snaking river, rolling crazy landscape and the start of the maze that will lead to the Queen of Hearts' castle.

Disney Princesses as Tudor Queens

Two things about me; I love Disney and I love history. So, thanks to azaleasdolls, I have been able to create what I think the official Disney princesses would have looked like as Tudor Queens. I know three of them don't really fit in properly but I'll talk about that when I get there so please bear with me. So, without any further ado, the princesses as Queens.

1. Queen Snow White

  1. Classic blue, red and yellow colours
  2. White collar a la Disney
  3. Short sleeves
  4. Flower and leaf pattern on the dress
2. Queen Cinderella

  1. Blue colour more regularly used in the merchandising
  2. White gloves
  3. Blonde hair in bun as in the movie
  4. Very simple pattern on the actual dress
3. Queen Aurora

  1. A primarily pink dress with lashings of blue
  2. Leaf patterns on the dress to symbolise her upbringing as Briar Rose
  3. Hair left hanging as it appears in the movie
  4. Gold necklace
4. Queen Ariel

  1. Green and purple dress to represent her purple shell bra and green tail
  2. Long flowing red hair
  3. Patterns on the dress resemble as coral/seaweed look to represent the sea
  4. Purple, green and red jewellery to show her well known colours
  5. Note; In the Little Mermaid II, Ariel and Eric have a 12 year old daughter named Princess Melody. While not definite, it can be assumed that Ariel is canonically a Queen in the Disney world.
5. Queen Belle

  1. Gold colour as her Golden ball gown is her most recognised outfit
  2. Very simple yet elegant
  3. Hair in fashion seen in the merchandise; in a bun with majority flowing
  4. Carries with her a book and a rose to symbolise her love of books and the curse she broke.
6. Jasmine, visiting Sultana

  1. Blues used as that is the colour she is mostly known to wear
  2. Large crown of Arabian inspiration
  3. Dress patterns designed to resemble Arabian artworks
  4. Jewellery and shows also to highlight Arabian feel.
  5. Note, this series focuses on how the Princesses would look as Tudor queens. However, Jasmine, Pocahontas and Mulan are from very different cultures which made it difficult. As such, I have made a large effort to create them in the Tudor scene maker and give them titles and outfits more befitting of their culture. For example, an English society would see Jasmine as a visiting Sultana and Pocahontas as a visiting Cheiftan. Mulan was harder as she is not actually a princess in her movie. I imagine her being known as Lady Mulan in England due to her high status as a Generals wife.
7. Pocahontas, visiting Cheiftan

  1. Goldish/brown dress similar in colour to the one she wears in her movie
  2. Blue necklace
  3. Leaf pattern on the dress to represent her Native American origin
  4. Simple crown

  6. Note, I am aware that it was not common for daughters of Native American cheiftans to themselves become cheiftans but for the purposes of this series, that is what I have made Pocahontas
8. Lady Mulan, General's wife

  1. Blue, green and yellow used to recreate a dress she wore in her movie
  2. A simple headdress
  3. Pink flowers used as patterns as it gave it a Chinese feel. Also, resembles the flower given to her by her father.
  4. Simple pink necklace to match dress pattern.

9. Queen Tiana

  1. Greens and yellows used to recreate her first wedding dress
  2. Necklace similar to one she wore in blue dress
  3. Various leaf and flower patterns to represent the grassy feel of the original dress
  4. Butterfly like effect on dress also reminiscent of the 1920s, when her movie was set.
10. Queen Rapunzel

  1. Pinks and purples used like in her movie
  2. Very simple jewellery. Suits well as I imagine her being an active queen. Doesn't like being slowed down by large pieces of jewellery.
  3. Very simple dress patterns. Suits well as I imagine her being an active queen
  4. Short brown hair like at the end of her movie
11. Queen Merida

  1. Dark blue dress to recreate the one seen in her movie
  2. Leaf patterns to represent the nature of the Scottish Highlands
  3. Large red hair (difficult to recreate in the Tudor scene maker)
  4. No jewellery other than her crown. She's a lover of the outdoors and doesn't want slowed down by jewellery.
12. Queen Anna

  1. Colours used are the ones from her winter outfit.
  2. Pink and green patterns resemble those seen in her film
  3. Red hair in bun similar to the one she had in her coronation dress
  4. A white crown the symbolise the white streak of her hair.
13. Queen Elsa

  1. Blue used to recreate ice dress
  2. Simple pattern used to mimic the naked eye view of snowflakes
  3. Pointy white crown used to represent icicles
  4. Long blonde hair in braid as in the movie
  5. Note, Elsa is already a Queen in her movie and, as such, I have kept her original look mostly intact but made a bit more Tudor.
Well, thats all of them. Hope you liked them. Watch this space, Disney Princes as Tudor Kings coming soon.

R.I.P. Robin Williams

I know this post is about a month late, but it's honestly taken me that long to work out the right things to say. I kept toying with words, figuring out how to express what I'm feeling, but then failing because I became too upset. But this needs to be done. This man was an inspiration, my childhood and one of my earliest heroes.

This will not be a long post. I can't write a long post. It was hard writing that first paragraph. But the following three statements are something I need to say to Robin Williams, wherever he is now.

As the Genie you taught me that you should always be yourself. That no matter what anybody says we'll always be a prince or princess to you.

As Peter Pan you taught me that no adventure is over because to live would be an awfully big adventure.

As Alan Parrish you taught me to always face what I was afraid of.

Robin, there are so many other things to say but I can't even think of them. So many other movies you were in that made up my childhood. And I can't say thank you enough. I just hope you know how much I, and the rest of the world, miss you.

Genie, you're free.

"I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing–that it was all started by a mouse."

This really is just a short post to say thank you to a man that I will, sadly, never get to meet.

He is a man that changed my life and the lives of millions throughout the world. You don't have to be a child to appreciate what he gave us. Anyone can. Anyone at all.

In 1928, a 26 year old American man created one the most iconic characters ever to grace animation. This character would signal the start of a story telling industry that has captured the hearts and minds of countless people. It would signal the start of a magic that has yet to die.

That characters name was Mickey Mouse. And his creator was a man by the name of Walt Disney.

Mickey debuted in a 7 minute short film called Steamboat Willie and it was this that started the animating magic of the Walt Disney Studios.

After a short while, a cast of characters slowly joined Mickey; his girlfriend Minnie debuted with him in Steamboat Willie, Clarabelle Cow followed in 1929, Pluto in 1930, Goofy in 1932, Donald Duck in 1934 and Donald's girlfriend Daisy in 1940. Disney's first feature film also came out during this time; in 1937, Snow White became the "princess who started it all" and began the tradition of Disney adapting fairy tales. These characters and the magic they created went a long way to help the world through the struggles of World War II with their cartoons sporting pro American messages and giving the hope of winning a better world.

I know I can speak for countless others when I say that Disney has changed my life. They gave us stories that give us hope that everyone can have a happy ending. Disney has taught us to be true to who we are. That we can have the Prince, the Princess, we can be a housewife, a warrior, an outcast, a dreamer, we can live without the true love, we can fix bonds we thought to be forever broken. That sometimes just believing in the possibility of a happy ending is a very powerful magic. They taught us to see beneath appearances, that not everyone is as they appear to be. A beast may be more human than man. That, if we want to be more than we are, we can be so as long as we try. That if we want to be exactly who we now, we do not need to change. Most importantly, Disney has taught us that can be who are are, and we can be proud. We do not have to hide. We can be anything we want whether that be the princess or the outcast, the housewife or the warrior. This is the true message of Disney. This is the true magic. After all, Walt did say "If you can dream it, you can do it."

And so, I say this to the man who gave us all of this. Walter Elias Disney, thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

"All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." - Walt Disney
